Summer PUG Party and BBQ

By Adilfa Ford

Okay I know it's short notice but I just barely got the e-mail list and I am going to be in Venezuela for 2 weeks but wanted to do something in July. Nothing too fancy, we'll skip the spotlight and speaker stuff and just eat and have fun for a change. I'll provide the meat, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, etc. or Pictage will I hope and probably a few bags of chips and if anybody wants to bring salads and desserts that would be great. We've got the Pool Table, Ping Pong, and Foosball Tables, and X-box in the theatre for those who want to play games or just sit and talk. I think it will be a lot of fun so I hope you can come. I know how busy everybody's summer is but I don't know if there is ever really a slow time for anybody so if you can come, great, if not we'll see you next month. Next month by the way will be probably August 18 and we'll do Don Polo spotlight and mini class that we were going to do last month. Sorry about the change in date again but I will be in Mexico the last week. I know, tough life but somebodies got to do it. I hope everybody is having a great summer and we'll see you on Monday.

Hey everybody,
-Written by Adilfa Ford-

Like I said at the meeting I'm new to "blogging" so I hope I am doing this right. I want to welcome everybody and say hi. I think most of you know me already but for those that don't I want to tell you a little about myself. Actually this is a preview to the presentation we were going to give at the last meeting but didn't get time for so I hope everybody can be there when we do that, probably in August. My name is Adilfa Ford and I was born in the small town of La Luz, Venezuela, actually not even in the town, it was on a farm close to the town, so you could say I come from very humble beginnings. I never would have dreamed of a career as a photographer as I could not have ever imagined it at the time. Anyway, long story how I met my husband and ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah, maybe I'll tell it sometime but sorry, not today. I started in photography about 16 years ago, again long story but it's part of our program so don't miss it. I immediately joined the Intermountain Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) when I started on the recommendation of my photography instructor and it was best thing I ever did. Through the IPPA I was able to learn from some of the best photographers in the world, past, present and future. Don Blair, Frank Cricchio, Stewart and Susan Powers, Monte Zucker, Drake Busath, Dave Newman, Hansen Fong, Doug Box, David Jay, Robert Lino, Tim Kelley, and Michael Taylor to name a few. From them I learned the importance of continuing education and association. I remember watching Don Blair just months before his death taking notes in the back of the room, learning from someone who wasn't even born when he started teaching. I am a firm believer in sharing and learning from each other. Through association, whether it's IPPA, WPPI, PPA, or the Pictage PUG we fine tune our talent and give back to our community. I am honored to have been asked to be the PUG leader and hope that I can live up to the commitment. The schedule is going to be a little bit messed up for the first few meetings and I apologize for that but I have some prior commitments that will take me out of the country on the regular day. I am still trying to get the e-mail list from Davina but will hopefully get that later today or tomorrow so I can announce the first meeting. I will also try to keep this blog updated. See you at the next meeting.

PS. I don't have time to hang out the forums too much but if anybody ever has any questions give me a call or an e-mail and I would be happy to help with whatever I can.

New PUG leaders!!

~Written By Davina~
"Adilfa and Russ Ford of Don Polo Photography have been doing photography professionally for over 16 years and have traveled all over the world both photographing events and speaking to other photographers. Adilfa is the beauty, the personality, and the brains behind the business and Russ is, well Russ is there to follow Adilfa around and clean up the mess. Well, really Russ has a background in computers and is a great technical resource for everything computer or electronic as well as being a photographer and graphic designer. Together they make a great husband and wife team and their business, Don Polo Photography has become one of the most successful in the intermountain area.
They both speak fluent English and Spanish and have taught in Peru, Mexico, Florida, Wyoming, Utah and at WPPI in Las Vegas.
Next Month (August) ~ They will talk about what it takes to turn a fun part time hobby into a successful full time business. A little bit of posing, lighting, and who knows maybe if there's time a photoshop trick or two. Don't miss out, it's going to be a lot of fun."

Thanks Davina!!

Davina is no longer our PUG leader~ She is moving to South Carolina~They will be lucky to have her there!
We'll all miss you Davina~ Best wishes for you and your family in your beautiful new home!!
Happiness to you! :)

Christmas Party 2007

Well the PUG Christmas party that was held at Stacy's house was an absolute blast. Davina picked up some sticky fingers from Wingers and I am officially addicted to them now. There was a really big turnout and even a couple of new faces. A big thanks to Stacy for hosting the party, she is such a sweetheart. Here is a video I took with my new flip video, I tried to get everyone at the party. It might take a bit to load. The only sucky thing about the video is that I was the one taking it, so unfortunately you won't be able to see how handsome I looked that night unless you were there :P hahaha, j/k Just hit play to see the video.

Christmas Party!

Location:
Stacy's House: if you need directions make sure to email me (davina@davinafear.com) and I'll send them out to you.

When:
Monday, December 10, 7:00PM

Phone:

Who:
You and your spouse/significant other and any other photography friends

We're having a lot of fun at Stacy's house where there are games in the basement and plenty of room to comfortably hang out and eat and talk. Wohoo!

Pictage is providing A LOT of the food, however, we're ending up with a great turn out (bigger than expected which is awesome!) so if you'd like to bring an appetizer, salad, dessert, or whatever... feel free. You in no way have to but if you wanted to I wouldn't stop you.

Note: orginally discussed having alcohol at the party but have since decided on no alcohol.

So come have a fun time and celebrate the holidays. It's going to be fun to see so many people!

Happy Holidays,
Davina
